The 3,000 inhabitants of Ojén are hoping that securing a place in this year’s list of ‘Best places to live’ that was published in The Times newspaper recently, will boost tourism to the town. Ojén received a better placing than major cities such as Rome, Stockholm and Paris, on the list prepared by British travel specialists.
In assessing locations for the annual list, the newspaper considered factors such as published statistics on the quality of life, infrastructure, the gastronomy of the area, the climate, the environment and surroundings, as well as the ease with which British residents could integrate into the community.
The Mayor of Ojén welcomed the news that the town had been made number 35 on the list and said that he hoped it would translate into recognition of Ojén as a first class tourist destination offering an authentic Andalusian experience and the perfect complement to the sun and seaside tourism offered nearby.
Located between the busy international tourist destination of Marbella and the Sierra de las Nieves nature park, the local town hall says Ojén is perfectly located for nature based tourism and adventure holidays with the attraction of the charm of the town’s narrow streets, whitewashed houses, decorative flower pot displays and views over the sea.
The other locations in Spain that made the top 50 list are Palma de Mallorca, Barcelona and Zahara de los Atunes on the Costa de la Luz.
