Hotel chain DoubleTree by Hilton has signed a deal to open a new spa resort at the Reserva de Higuerón complex in Benalmádena which will last for 20 years.
The news was made public on Wednesday at the ITB fair in Berlin, during a ceremony presided over by Spain’s tourism minister, Isabel Borrego.
The international director of DoubleTree by Hilton, John Greenleaf, said that every hotel in the chain has its own “individuality” and the new spa at Reserva de Higuerón will be no exception.
The complex will open in the second week of June and will be called DoubleTree by Hilton Resort & Spa Reserva del Higuerón. By then a number of changes will have been made to the current site with a total investment of one million euros including the contracting of more staff.
Hilton said on Wednesday that their new hotel is located in the heart of the Costa del Sol, “with views over Fuengirola bay, the resort will have 177 rooms and suites, a spa and wellness centre. Guests will also be able to enjoy two outdoor pools, a sports centre on sand and two tennis courts.”
Senior vice president of development for Europe and Africa of Hilton Worldwide said: “The 320 days of sun per year in Malaga and its cultural importance have continued to increase demand in the luxury hospitality industry, with an increase of 127 per cent of people staying in hotels in the past ten years. Our first DoubleTree by Hilton in the Costa del Sol will represent a major economic stimulus for the surrounding area.”
